Time Magazine recently published an article titled, "Is Texting Killing the English Language?" Read the following article by clicking the image provided below. Leave a comment on the blog deciding if you agree that texting is detrimental to the English language or if it is harmless. Remember to state your opinion and use support from the text.
Hey! OK. I can totally understand the article's author's point of view. And it's kind of confusing. The first time I saw LOL I had no clue what it was talking about, what it meant. I STILL don't know half the texting shortcuts, and I have seen several blog comments on here and met several people using 'u' rather than 'you' or 'r' rather than 'are' and things like that. However, I have to say, that's not my real problem with texting.
I approve of texting, it can be a helpful way to contact people. For example, if you have a friend who has a phone ad not an e-mail you can text them to say little things like 'I'm in Snow White on Broadway, performances are these times..' or whatever that aren't really worth calling over. Or if your friend's family never answers the phone, you can just text them. Or if your friend has an e-mail and a phone, but checks their texts more often than their e-mail, you know you can hear back from them sooner. Also, it's like sending an e-mail and getting an almost instant reply.
However, my real problem with texting is that it's a way to ignore the people around you by talking to people who aren't even there when it's not like you're actually talking. And yet you're ignoring everybody else because you're busy texting. Despite it's advantages, texting destroys the social side of the human being a little.
Something else though is people will try to keep there texts short and simple, so instead of writing "I'm happy because I just got a puppy and a kitten. It is so cool!" they write "im happy cause i got a puppy and kitten".
So, texting has it's upsides and it's downsides. Personally, I'm not really sure what I want to support because they are both very good points, and then there's that other problem with the ignoring. But, if you text, please think about this all and think it over.

I think you could see it both ways but i do think that people should not talk in ext language in conversations
For starters, I do not think that texting is killing the English Language because I text my friends a lot and I do not talk like that or if I'm writing a story I do not use text words, or short cuts to write a word. I never do that.
In addition I do sort of think that it may affect the way some people talk or write but I just don't think it is KILLING the English Language because it's not everyday that people are talking in text version but I just don't think it is much of a big deal.
Most girls say "OMG" and "LOL" or "YOLO" but it's because they're young and they just want to laugh with they're friends and they just want to have a fun time, but they don't always talk that way they mostly talk like that when they are sort of ALONE with their friends.
So no I do not think that texting is killing the English Language. I do not think this because: teenagers and kids just want to have fun, they're not always using this type of "language" EVERYWHERE and it's not like it is going to affect their everyday life.

I think that texting is not changing the English language because when people text and they say lol, omg, and yolo its just making the word smaller so they don't have to write more. texting is simple people only use shortcuts to write more because when you text you only have a amount of words you can write so by using shortcuts you are able to write more

I agree with Ruth. Not all the times people using phones for the first time won't understand the short cuts. But all teenagers who understand the short cuts, continues to use it, they could mess up their minds. Also texting is a privileged to use, but people still take advantaged of the privilege. Another thing is that texting short cuts could damaged little kids' minds. I also think that texting is good to write the shot cuts, but not all of them, maybe only some that sounds like the word like "u" or "r"or any other letters that sound like the word.
